I’ve heard that traffic in Bangkok can be crazy! Is public transport (BTS, MRT, etc.) a better option than taxis or tuk-tuks? Are there any apps I should download to make getting around easier?”

Absolutely, public transport is the way to go, especially with the traffic here. The BTS (Skytrain) and MRT (subway) are both super easy to use, clean, and affordable. You can get around most of the major areas, and they run frequently. I’d recommend getting a Rabbit Card for the BTS or a stored-value MRT card—it saves a lot of time from buying single tickets every time. Download apps like Google Maps or even Grab for the times when you need a ride. Tuk-tuks are fun for short distances, but for longer trips, the BTS/MRT combo is a no-brainer.

I was nervous about getting around Bangkok at first, but the public transport system is actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it. The BTS and MRT signs are in English, and stations have maps to help you figure out where you’re going. Plus, you avoid all the traffic jams that Bangkok is known for! Taxis and tuk-tuks are okay for short rides, but they often get stuck in traffic. I’d also recommend using the Klook app to book passes for transport in advance—super convenient if you’re planning to move around a lot.

The BTS and MRT are both great, but one thing a lot of people miss is the Chao Phraya River boats! They’re a super fun way to get around, especially if you’re visiting the Grand Palace or Wat Arun. The boat ride gives you a totally different view of the city, and it’s cheap too. I used public transport most of the time, but the boats were a nice break from the crowds. And if you do need a ride at night when the trains stop running, Grab is probably your best bet—it’s like Uber, and prices are reasonable.
